Warranty Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026. This version applies to products bought on or after this date. Products bought earlier keep the coverage that applied when they were bought, or this coverage if it's better for you.

Three different kinds of protection can apply to a product you buy from us. They're separate, they can overlap, and none of them reduces the others:

  1. The IdealofTech warranty: our own 90-day commercial warranty, explained below.
  2. A manufacturer's warranty, where one applies.
  3. Your statutory (legal) warranties under the laws of your province or territory, including the Quebec legal warranties. These apply whatever this policy says, and they can last longer than 90 days.

1. The IdealofTech 90-day warranty

Condition IdealofTech warranty Manufacturer's warranty
New 90 days The manufacturer's warranty, as offered by the manufacturer
Open-box 90 days Any remaining manufacturer coverage, where the manufacturer honours it
Refurbished 90 days Usually none. Any remaining coverage is stated on the listing only where we've checked it

When it starts: on the day you receive the product (delivery or pickup).

What it covers: defects in materials or workmanship that appear under normal use, including faults in the operating system and drivers we installed, as delivered.

What we'll do: repair the product free of charge. If it can't reasonably be repaired, we'll replace it with an equivalent unit or refund it.

Batteries: a battery that fails, swells, won't charge, or performs clearly worse than its description on the listing is a defect and is covered. The gradual loss of capacity that every battery has with use and age is normal wear and isn't a defect.

Shipping for claims: for valid claims, we cover reasonable shipping costs to and from us.

2. What the IdealofTech warranty doesn't cover

  • Accidental damage, drops, liquid damage, misuse or neglect
  • Normal battery wear (see above)
  • Cosmetic wear that matches the product's described condition or grade
  • Problems caused by software, apps or settings you install or change after delivery, or by viruses
  • Damage caused by a repair or modification made by someone other than IdealofTech. A defect that wasn't caused by that repair or modification is still covered, even if the device was opened or repaired by someone else.
  • Accessories that aren't defective, such as a replacement charger that works as described

Please back up your data before sending a device to us. We take care with your files, but repairs sometimes need storage to be replaced or reset. We'll ask your permission before anything that would erase your data. See our Repair Terms.

3. Manufacturer's warranties

A manufacturer's warranty is given by the manufacturer, not by IdealofTech, and the manufacturer decides whether a product qualifies. When a listing says manufacturer coverage remains, you can confirm it with the manufacturer using the serial number. We're happy to help you make a manufacturer claim, but you can always come to us first. You don't have to go to the manufacturer to use our warranty or your legal warranties.

4. Your statutory warranties (all provinces and territories)

Products sold to consumers must meet the warranties and conditions implied by the laws of your province or territory. For example, in Ontario, products must be of acceptable quality and fit for their usual purpose, and these conditions can't be waived. These rights don't end after 90 days, and nothing in this policy limits them.

5. Quebec consumers

If you're a consumer in Quebec, the legal warranties of Quebec's Consumer Protection Act apply. Goods must be fit for their usual purpose and durable in normal use for a reasonable length of time, given their price, the contract and the conditions of use.

Legal warranty of good working order (garantie de bon fonctionnement). New laptops, desktop computers, tablets, cell phones and video game consoles bought new on or after October 5, 2026 carry a legal warranty of good working order of 3 years from delivery, free of charge.

  • It covers parts and labour, and the merchant or manufacturer pays reasonable transport or shipping costs.
  • You can come to us. We won't require you to go only to the manufacturer.
  • The warranty is extended by the time we keep the product for repair.
  • It benefits later owners for the rest of the warranty period.
  • It doesn't cover normal maintenance, or damage resulting from abuse by the consumer.

This warranty applies to goods first sold new on or after October 5, 2026. Refurbished and other used products don't receive a new 3-year term. A used unit is covered only for whatever remains of a legal warranty that began when it was first sold new. Contact us with the serial number and we'll check whether any residual coverage applies. This legal warranty is separate from, and doesn't depend on, any manufacturer's support offer.

6. How to make a claim

Contact us with your order number and a short description of the problem. We may suggest a few quick checks, but you don't have to troubleshoot or send photos before we act on a valid claim. We'll then arrange drop-off or shipping. Please remove passwords and activation locks if you can. If you can't, for example because the device won't start, tell us and we'll work out a practical solution.
